Morgan Manzer Resigns as Chair

It is with sadness and gratitude that the Halifax Pride Society announces the departure of Morgan Manzer from the board of directors and the role of Board Chair. Morgan is moving on to focus his energies on other projects, including his role with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia and advancing equity within the legal profession.

Morgan joined the board in 2015 and became Chair in 2016 during a challenging period. During his time with Halifax Pride, Morgan oversaw significant change at the festival and Society. Under his leadership, the Society moved in a new strategic direction, focusing on creating safer spaces, prioritizing the voices of QTBIPOC folks, and being more responsive to community needs. Morgan was passionate about advancing these priorities and took a hands-on approach to this work. He was also committed to building the capacity of the Society to best serve our 2SLGBTQ+ community.

“I got involved with Pride because I believed in its power to positively affect the lives of 2SLGBTQ+ folks. That belief is stronger today than ever. I’m proof of it. I’m incredibly proud of what the team and community have accomplished together over these past years. I would like to thank all board members and volunteers I have had the opportunity to serve with, particularly Executive Director, Adam Reid. I leave thankful for the many wonderful memories and friendships I have gained from this experience. I will cherish them.”

We at Halifax Pride are incredibly grateful to Morgan for his leadership, energy, and years of dedicated service to our organization and the community. We wish him the absolute best in all his future plans and endeavours.

Happily, Morgan will not be moving on entirely from Halifax Pride. As lead of the Policy & Governance Committee, we will continue to benefit from Morgan’s advice and guidance.

The board anticipates the role of Chair will be filled by a sitting board member at our next meeting in March, with Vice Chair Chris Cochrane serving as Chair in the interim.
