QTBIPOC SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Through this 28-month project, Halifax Pride will address the needs and barriers to equality for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, specifically for the 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit sector and the QTBIPOC community in Nova Scotia. This will be achieved by conducting outreach initiatives through surveys and interviews to gather information and identify gaps for both individuals and community organizations, and by creating public accessed focus groups related to skill development and access to professional opportunities regionally. At the end of the project, Halifax Pride will develop anti-oppression and anti-racism guidelines and best practices for the 2SLGTBQIA+ non-profit sector, and offer recommendations to improve skill development, access, and engagement for the QTBIPOC community.
Indigenous Engagement Coordinator, QTBIPOC Skills Development Grant
Available Position: Part time, 27 month contract, hybrid
Salary Range: $30,000 - $35,000

The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator will play a critical role in Halifax Pride’s 28-month initiative, ensuring meaningful engagement with Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit communities across Nova Scotia. This role focuses on building relationships with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and individuals, identifying barriers to equality and skill development, and co-creating culturally responsive resources and recommendations. The successful candidate will act as a liaison to amplify Indigenous voices and ensure their needs are represented in all aspects of the project.
This position reports to the Executive Director and Project Manager.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Work with the Project Manage to establish and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit individuals, leaders, and organizations throughout the project.
Serve as a primary point of contact for Indigenous communities engaged in the project.
Collaborate with Indigenous communities to design and facilitate culturally relevant focus groups and outreach initiatives.
Conduct outreach to identify the unique barriers faced by Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ and Two-Spirit individuals in skill development, professional opportunities, and community engagement.
Lead or support interviews, surveys, and engagement sessions that prioritize Indigenous perspectives.
Advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous voices and experiences in the development of anti-oppression and anti-racism guidelines.
Work closely with the Project Manager and other team members to ensure project activities reflect Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and lived experiences.
Contribute to the creation of culturally appropriate resources, including training materials and recommendations that address barriers to equity for Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
Support the development of guidelines and best practices for engaging and empowering Indigenous voices within the non-profit sector.

The Project Manager will oversee the planning, implementation, and completion of Halifax Pride's 28-month initiative addressing barriers to skills development for QTBIPOC community members, with a focus on the non-profit sector in Nova Scotia. This role centers on identifying and addressing skill development gaps for QTBIPOC individuals, facilitating professional opportunities, and creating actionable guidelines for equity and anti-oppression practices. The successful candidate will manage outreach efforts, analyze community needs, and create strategies to empower QTBIPOC individuals in the non-profit and professional sectors.
This position reports to the Executive Director.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Develop a detailed project roadmap targeting skill development gaps for QTBIPOC individuals and non-profit organizations throughout Nova Scotia.

Act as a bridge between QTBIPOC communities and non-profit organizations to ensure equitable representation and engagement.
Analyze data from surveys, interviews, and focus groups to identify skill gaps and systemic barriers affecting QTBIPOC communities.
Create recommendations for improving access to professional opportunities, mentorship, and career pathways for QTBIPOC individuals.
Draft anti-oppression and anti-racism guidelines informed by outreach findings, focusing on creating equitable policies for the 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit sector.
Collaborate with QTBIPOC stakeholders to ensure recommendations reflect lived experiences and community priorities.
