Advancing Organizational Equity Through Skills Building in 2SQTBIPOC communities
Halifax Pride is proud to announce the launch of a transformative 28-month initiative, funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), aimed at addressing barriers to equality for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in Nova Scotia. This project will specifically focus on strengthening the 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit sector and enhancing support for QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals.
This project will take a multi-faceted approach to identifying and addressing systemic gaps that impact both individuals and community organizations. Through extensive outreach initiatives—including surveys, interviews, and public focus groups—Halifax Pride will gather crucial data to inform long-term, sustainable solutions for skill development, professional opportunities, and increased accessibility within the non-profit sector.
“Equity and inclusion must go beyond statements—they require action and systemic change,” said Fiona Kerr, Executive Director of Halifax Pride. “Through this project, we will work alongside our community to identify challenges, strengthen capacity, and build frameworks that promote meaningful opportunities for 2SQTBIPOC individuals and organizations.”
At the conclusion of the 28-month project, Halifax Pride will publish a series of recommendations aimed at improving skill development, access, and engagement opportunities for the 2SQTBIPOC community. These recommendations will provide a roadmap for organizations and institutions committed to dismantling barriers and fostering equity in Nova Scotia and beyond.
Halifax Pride invites individuals, community leaders, and non-profit organizations to participate in this initiative by sharing their experiences, insights, and expertise. More details on how to get involved will be announced in the coming months.
