Halifax Pride is launching the Emergency Event Support Program, a funding initiative to alleviate some of the new financial pressures event organizers are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Halifax Pride Society values community organizers and the 2SLGBTQ+ festival events they contribute to the annual Halifax Pride Festival line-up. The COVID-19 crisis has significantly impacted our plans for the festival, but we want to support our community and their plans to celebrate Pride in safe and innovative ways.

The goal of this program is to offer financial assistance to help events adapt and proceed. Applications may request up to $300, supporting events that are:

  • organized by an individual, registered non-profit society, or adhoc group;

  • held within the geographical boundaries of the province of Nova Scotia;

  • organized primarily for the benefit of 2SLGBTQ+ community members;

  • taking place during the Halifax Pride Festival dates of July 16-26, 2020;

  • adherent to current social distancing and public health regulations.

Halifax Pride is passionate about supporting events and supply costs that make events more accessible and health-conscious. Events that are organized by and/or for traditionally underrepresented communities (youth, trans, non-binary, elder, QTBIPOC) are encouraged to apply, and these applications will be driven to the top of our list.

Events funded through this program will be required to submit their information to the online festival calendar. Events not receiving funding assistance from Halifax Pride are also encouraged to submit their event for inclusion in the calendar. Please carefully consider you or your organization’s funding needs before submitting your application. Costs eligible for funding requests may include:

  • Tech equipment rental (mics, camera, audio, etc)

  • Sanitary supplies (protective gear, sanitizer, masks, etc.)

  • Event supplies (craft materials, decorations, office supplies, etc.)

  • ASL interpretation (approx. costs are 1 hour event = $70, 2 hour event = $280)

Review Process

Applications will be reviewed as they are received and applicants can anticipate a response within 72 hours. All decisions will be final. Funds will be distributed following the submission of events to the online festival calendar.
