The Halifax Pride Society acknowledges that the work of a board member constitutes a significant investment of personal time and will strive to accommodate all board members to the best of our ability. We appreciate that the demands of being a board member can create barriers to participation. The addition of staff and volunteer planning committees have significantly decreased the demands on board members, but we recognize the ongoing need to identify and eliminate barriers to participation and expand the diversity of experience and voices on the board.

Besides the satisfaction of making a difference, there are many perks to being a board member:

  • Working with a dedicated team and making wonderful new connections

  • Board training in things such as anti-oppression strategies, intersectionality, harm reduction, communication, and conflict mediation

  • Experience in non-profit leadership

  • The satisfaction of seeing projects become reality

  • Passionate about the needs and concerns of Halifax’s 2SLGBTQ+ community

  • Eager to develop and deliver projects to make the festival possible
