Halifax Pride has a variety of staff, contract, and volunteer roles within the organization to assist with festival and society operations. Halifax Pride contract and full-time staff must embrace the values and policies of the Halifax Pride Society.

Canada Summer Jobs Program

The following positions are funded in partnership with the Canada Summer Jobs Wage Subsidy Program. Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.


Volunteer coordinator

  • Available Position:  Full time, temporary, hybrid.

  • Salary:  $20 per hour, 35 hours per week.

  • Contract Duration: 9 weeks, starting June 3rd, 2024.

  • Closing Date: Wednesday, May 15th, at 12:00am AST.

  • Interviews: The week of May 20th.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for all festival related volunteer planning needs leading up to and during the festival. The position will work remotely in the seven weeks leading up to the festival, and in-person during the Halifax Pride Festival (July 18-28). It will be the Volunteer Coordinator’s responsibility to review volunteer training materials and offer volunteer training sessions (both in-person, and online), identify the festival’s diverse volunteer needs and duties, create and fill the festival event schedule with available volunteers, and liaise with the festival team to ensure volunteers arrive at their shifts with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. The Volunteer Coordinator will be supported by a team of experienced Halifax Pride Lead Volunteers with in depth knowledge of events, who will serve as on site volunteer supervisors.

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct thorough review and update of 2023 volunteer training documents and materials.

  • Conduct a call for volunteers.

  • Lead a series of training workshops (in-person and online) and one-on-one training as required.

  • Consult with the Operations Team to create a schedule, list, and descriptions for all volunteer positions.

  • Manage the filling of all volunteer shifts.

  • Conduct on site volunteer registration in the days leading up to and during the festival, responding to questions and requests.

  • Monitor volunteer attendance and send reminders and updates during the festival.

  • Conduct volunteer survey following the closing of the festival.

  • Assist with the planning of a volunteer appreciation event.

  • Other tasks as identified.

Parade Coordinator

  • Available Position:  Full time, temporary, hybrid.

  • Salary:  $20 per hour, 35 hours per week.

The Parade Coordinator will be tasked with the responsibility of managing all parade participant needs, communications, logistics, and plans. The Parade Coordinator will manage organizing parade entry list/order in consultation with the Operations Team, coordinating parade logistics (HRM Parade Permit, portable washrooms, marshaling markers, etc), managing marshaling volunteers, and coordinating with all involved operational partners. The Parade Coordinator will oversee the operations of the Parade Marshaling Site on parade day, and will be the main contact for all marshals and operational teams.

This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responding to parade participant questions and concerns.

  • Reviewing and updating the parade participant training workshop.

  • Leading the parade participant training workshop.

  • Ensuring all recorded participant information and details are accurate.

  • Working with the leadership team to coordinator the parade order.

  • Registering parade participants on site the day of the parade.

  • Confirming entries conform to the applications as submitted and meet all safety guidelines.

  • Updating documents and submitting a final report following the festival.

  • Other duties as identified.
